Symptoms

Spec merge (R98700) is failing/crashing when trying to apply an ESU or during an upgrade.  The following is seen in the jde.log:

The issue occurs for IBM i (System i, AS400) systems only. The table and column specified in the log may vary, but is an issue with columns that contain BLOB (binary large objects) data.
