North Dakota uses the filing status from the federal W4 and has implemented two withholding methods for year 2020. Below are the details about the change.
North Dakota has implemented two withholding methods based on their reliance upon the federal form W-4.
Method for Form W-4 prior to 2020
This method uses filing status Single or Married
Increased withholding allowance amount from $4,200.00 to $4,300.00.
Revised withholding tables.
Method for form W-4 2020
Added filing statuses
Married Filing Jointly (16)
Single or Married Filing Separately (62)
Head of Household (3)
Added withholding tables
The withholding allowance amount is not used in this method
Default filing status is set to single or married filing separately (62) in version 4.3.3
Default filing status is single (1) in versions prior to 4.3.3
