The following filing status changes will be applied with the September 18, 2020 (Update #9/20) Vertex Monthly Update.
WEST VIRGINIA (49-000-0000) removed the filing status ‘Single or Married with two or more incomes’ (Filing Status 30), effective January 1, 2020. Employees using this filing status must be recoded to either Single (Filing Status 1) or Married (Filing Status 2). All of these filing statuses use the same withholding tax table. There is no difference in the amount of tax calculated.
CANADA (70-000-0000) added the self-adjust calculation method to Canada Employer Employment Insurance tax, effective September 1, 2020. This is an additional method being supported along with the flat rate method. Previously, the flat rate method was the only approach supported in this tax calculation. Enabling the self-adjust functionality allows for an adjustment to the calculated tax, if necessary, to synchronize the employer taxes with the year-to-date wages.
What's New in Vertex Release 4.3.7?
Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFRCA) changes
To reflect changes that were created by the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFRCA), PTQ no longer uses the employer Social Security wages as a separate annual wage limit. Now, when the employee Social Security wages meet the annual wage limit, the employer Social Security wages stop accumulating for the year and tax calculations cease.
Note: Railroad Tier I Employer Social Security tax is not affected by this change.
Compensation information fields
PTQ was updated to confirm that threshold and limit compensation values were assigned appropriately in ISAM databases.
Filing status query adjusted
A query for all valid filing statuses no longer causes PTQ to crash.
Northern Mariana Islands withholding calculations added
PTQ now calculates withholding taxes for the Northern Mariana Islands, a commonwealth of the United States.
Note: Both the resident and work locations must be in the Northern Mariana Islands for PTQ to calculate tax. PTQ does not handle multiple work locations for the Northern Mariana Islands. Scenarios where only one location is in the Northern Mariana Islands are scheduled for a future release.
The Northern Mariana Islands have two taxes:
- Wage and salary tax (Chapter 2 tax)
- Income tax (Chapter 7 tax)
