E1: 47: EDI Inbound Order (R47011) Increments Sales (42) Next Number When Order Fails to Create (Doc ID 2798189.1)

Symptoms

When attempting to run EDI Inbound PO Create (R47011), the Sales Order Next Number is consumed even though the EDI job ends with errors and does not create the sales order.

The issue was reproduced with the following steps during a zoom conference

  1. Next Number for Sales (42) Index 1 is set to a certain value
  2. Create a New Sales Order (P42101) and Next Number is assigned to the order
  3. Immediately after saving the order, return to the Next Number Screen. Next Number is incremented by +1 as expected.
  4. Wait a few minutes and return to the Next Number Screen. Next Number is incremented by +2 more than before.
  5. During the wait EDI Inbound PO Create (R47011) ran and attempted to create two sales orders.
    1. The report PDF shows the EDI Processing Failed because the EDI Detail Record Does Not Exist.
    2. The order was started and two next numbers were consumed because they were assigned to the order header.
    3. When the detail record was not found, the sales order was not created but the Next Numbers were still consumed.
