E1: 46: Putaway Suggestions Exceed Max Qty by Zone Using Random Instructions for Items with Split Lines Enabled (Doc ID 3010302.1)

Symptoms

When a purchase order receipt (P4312) creates a Putaway Request for which only a partial quantity of that request will fit within the Random zone and the P46010 - Item Profile has 'Split Lines' enabled for the related item, the resulting Putaway Suggestions overfill the Putaway zone.  The first suggestion for a partial quantity fills the zone to the capacity level set in P46025 Maximum Quantity by Zone.  The subsequent suggestions created also suggest locations within this same zone resulting in the Zone being overfilled.  

Example when Split Lines is selected / enabled for the item: The Maximum Quantity By Zone is 50 cases and locations in the zone already contain a total of 36 cases, a purchase order receipt and Putaway Request of 40 cases results in a Suggestion of 14 cases to fill the zone and also subsequent/split suggestions of 14 cases and 12 cases to locations in the zone which overfill the zone.  

Example when Split Lines is deselected / not enabled for the item: The Maximum Quantity By Zone is 50 cases and locations in the zone already contain a total of 36 cases, a purchase order receipt and Putaway Request of 40 cases results in a single Suggestion to a location in different Zone.  The random instruction used in the first example is skipped due to the full quantity on the request not being able to fit in the Zone and instead it uses the next Instruction sequence which is defined to put away to a different Zone which does not have a Maximum Quantity defined for that Zone.

Set up and steps required to duplicate this issue.

  1. Set P46010 - Item Profile Revisions for the related item where 'Split Lines' is enabled.
  2. Set P46011 - U/M Definition by Item Revisions Capacity Method = 3 'Quantity Checking'.
  3. Set P46095 - Putaway Instructions where the first sequence uses a Random method with a specific Putaway Zone set.  The second sequence is defined with method X - Existing Locations, Random and the third sequence is defined with method E - Empty Locations, Random.  The 2nd an 3rd sequence instructions are set with a Putaway Zone that is different than the one set for sequence 1.  This Zone does not have a maximum Quantity by Zone defined.
  4. Set P46025 - Maximum Quantity by Zone for the Random Putaway Zone set on the related Random Putaway Instructions, (1st sequence, Method R).  In this example, the P46025 maximum quantity for Unit of Measure CA = 50.
  5. Using P4310 -Purchase Orders, create a Purchase Order for quantity = 36 CA.  Receive (P4312) to create a Putaway Request, (F4600).
  6. Run R46171 to process this Putaway Request and create a Putaway Suggestion.  The suggestion will suggest a location in the putaway zone set on the 1st sequence, random instruction line which is defined for maximum capacity of 50 Cases.  So this location / Zone contains 36 cases in a location within the Zone that is defined to hold a maximum quantity of 50 cases.
  7. Using P4310 -Purchase Orders, create a Purchase Order for quantity = 40 CA.  Receive (P4312) to create a Putaway Request, (F4600).
  8. Run R46171 Location selection Driver to process this Putaway Request and create a Putaway Suggestion.
  9. A location within the Random Instruction Putaway Zone defined to hold a maximum quantity of 50 cases is suggested for this new putaway.  First 14 cases are suggested in a location within this Zone and then 14 cases suggested to a different location in this same Zone and then the final 12 cases are suggested to another location in this same Zone.

To contrast this behavior, if P46010 - Item Profile Split Lines is NOT Selected, then the random instruction used in the first example is skipped due to the full quantity on the request not being able to fit in the Zone and instead it uses the next Instruction sequence which is defined to put away to a different Zone which does not have a Maximum Quantity defined for that Zone.
