Purpose
The purpose of this Bulletin is to provide an in depth document on the topic of Forecasting (G3421/P3460). This document supplements the Forecast Management Implementation Guide for 9.1.
Overview
Manufacturing Forecasting is available via fastpath, Periodic Forecast Operations, G36, Menu G3421, or using EnterpriseOne Menus > Multi-mode Manufacturing > Forecasting. Note Forecasting Setup is done via Forecasting Setup, Menu G3441.
Forecasting information is based on sales information, either in the Sales History Table (F42119) or Active Sales Orders Table (F4211). There is no functionality to forecast against work order files (F3111 or F4801). Forecast is typically done against the finished product, enabling Sales History and/or current actual sales, assist in future forecasting models. See E1: 36: R3465 Extract Sales Order History (Refresh Actuals, Extract Sales Actuals) Document 1401693.1
Forecasting raw materials is best handling by planning bills of material (BOMs). Refer to E1: 34: Using Planning BOMs in MRP Document 625951.1. Planning bills are commonly used in a manufacturing environment where the saleable end items have a large number of features and/or options. The forecasts for these saleable end items are based on percentages of the features and options offered that are expected to sell. Only shipped items will gather sales history.
Planning bills of material are a very helpful way to forecast raw materials that may need more attention than the normal channels. Like any forecast, they must maintained.
Scope
The intended audience is users of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Sales, Planning and Forecasting Modules.
