Symptoms

 After upgrading WebSphere Application Server and SP23, errors are encountered when trying to view PDFs when using the HTML/Web client. The problem goes away for some time after restarting the JAS instance but eventually returns. The following error appears in the JAS.LOG when the issue occurs:
