E1: VERTEX: Connecting to Vertex Payroll & Sales Tax on the Same Windows Server (Doc ID 661589.1)

Last updated on MAY 30, 2017

Applies to:

JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools - Version SP23 and Prior and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Currently, EnterpriseOne services are running on a single Windows Enterprise Server.  Supported versions of Vertex Payroll Tax Q Series (VFPT) and Vertex Sales Tax Q Series (VST) have also been installed on the same Windows server.  However, EnterpriseOne has issues connecting to GeoCoder for either version of Vertex.

When the path to the VFPT \utils directory is added to the System "Path" environment variable, sales and procurement applications fail to connect to the GeoCoder.

What configuration is required to get EnterpriseOne to connect to two different versions of Vertex when all are running on the same Windows Enterprise Server?

Note: Vertex Inc. advises against using Payroll ‘Township’ Geocodes for Sales and Use Tax calculations. ‘Township’ Geocodes are part of the Payroll version of the Geocode database. It is possible to utilize a single Geocoder database for Vertex Sales Tax Q Series and Vertex Payroll Tax Q Series, Vertex recommends against using this configuration option because of the potential for an incorrect geocode assignment, and the potential for an inaccurate tax calculation. Vertex recommends customers install, configure and load separate Geocoder databases for Vertex Sales Tax Q Series and Vertex Payroll Tax Q Series. This dual configuration allows you to select to load township records when installing or updating the Geocoder database for your Vertex Payroll Tax Q Series system, and allows you to choose not to load township records (Recommended) when installing or updating the Geocoder database for your Vertex Sales Tax Q Series system. This configuration provides the best possible Geocode assignment and tax calculation.
