E1: KER: Metadata Kernel is Crashing on HP_PA Risc or Itanium Servers Only (Doc ID 754976.1)

Last updated on MAY 30, 2017

Applies to:

JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools - Version 8.97 and Prior and later
HP-UX PA-RISC (64-bit)
HP-UX PA-RISC (32-bit)
HP-UX Itanium

The Metadata Kernel dies after 6 hours with 100 users. Increasing Metadata kernels processes, threads, and memory available does not resolve the issue. Core files are being created that are almost a gig (1gig) in size, causing a spike in CPU usage. This is apparent in Tools Release 8.98 and JDK 1.5. The JDENET_N log shows the kernel has died:

Here is an example of a METADATA kernel failure from a JDENET_N log, metadata process id 4729 has died, which later shows in the Metadata kernel log:

If Kernel Signal Handling is ON in the Enterprise Server JDE.INI, then you will find a core file in the directory that services are started....generally $SYSTEM/bin32.

HandleKrnlSignals=  0 or  1

Where 0 = Don't Handle Kernel Signals and 1 = Handle Kernel Signals
