E1: XMLP: Double-Byte Characters and Symbols Or Language Special Characters are Displayed as Question Marks or Boxes on BI Publisher Report Output (Doc ID 874194.1)

Last updated on DECEMBER 14, 2022

Applies to:

JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools - Version 8.98 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When submitting BI Publisher report on the Enterprise Server, double-byte characters (example, Simplified Chinese, Arabic, Czech, Euro currency symbol characters) and symbols (example, MS word symbols such as quotes, hyphen symbol, em dash (aka long dash) etc) display as ??? (question marks) in PDF output.
If the UBE is directly submitted without BI Publisher, the double-byte characters display correctly on the PDF output.

The double-byte characters and special characters symbols may or may not appear correctly when previewing the PDF output from BI Publisher Desktop. This issue also does not occur if the output type is RTF, EXCEL, PowerPoint or HTML.
