There are customers who require fractional hourly billing or the ability to export or invoice hours incrementally. If you export or invoice hours, you need the option to round to nearest fraction of an hour, or round up to 6, 15 or 30 minutes. Phone calls are often billed in increments, therefore after the initial Minimum Billing Increment, a customer will be charged using this increment for phone calls. For example, if the Minimum Billing Increment is 18 seconds and the Billing Increment is 6 seconds and the call lasts 23 seconds, a customer will be billed for 24 seconds (18 + 6 = 24). Common billing increments are 6 seconds, 30 seconds and 60 seconds.
Additionally, incremental billing should be flexible enough to allow users to choose Summary by… options, such as
- to round the hours first, then sum up or
- sum up the hours, then round the totals
