WS: 41: Enhancement Requesting New Error When Open Orders Exist and a Change to the Item Unit of Measure is Attempted

Symptoms

A change to an Item's Unit of Measure (UOM) settings can be completed even if there are open orders for this item.  These changes can be made without any errors being generated.  If this type of change is made to the UOM settings, conversions, etc when open orders exist, it could lead to incorrect quantities / amounts due to the new/different UOM structure, conversions, etc.

Document WS: 41: Changing Item Primary Unit of Measure (Doc ID 626689.1) provides direction regarding this type of change.  The first step in the process listed is to "complete or cancel all open sales orders, purchase orders and work orders for the item".  This indicates this is a known, possible issue that can occur when this type of change is performed at a time when there are open orders for the item.  Yet there are no errors generated to help in the prevention of making this type of change.

If open orders exist in the system for an item, then the system should prevent the user from changing the UOM of the item by generating a hard error for this scenario.
