WS: 09: Receive Error 2965 "Total Element Length Invalid" When Redifining Business Units in Flex Format - BU.Obj.Sub (P0907) (Doc ID 2912476.1)

Symptoms

Trying to redefine the chart of accounts, specifically business units, by splitting them into 2 segments but receiving error 2965 "Total Element Length Invalid".

Currently, in Flex Format, Business Units are defined with a length of 12. Actual Business Units in the chart of accounts set-up with two to five characters. The objective is to increase the length of Business Units to 10 and in two segments, MCU = 6 and MCU = 4, this is when error 2965 is issued.

Steps:

  1. Go to menu G09411/2, Flex Format -BU.Obj.Sub
  2. Business Unit set to length 12 and MCU is the Cross Reference Field
  3. Change Business Unit length to 6 and add another Business Unit segment for length 4 and MCU Cross Reference, press enter
  4. Note message fields as follows: "Total Length Invalid"
  5. Use F7 to see the error message
  6. Go to Data Dictionary, DD on the command line or G90/4, inquire on Data Item 2965

 

Changes

Attempt to change Business Unit (MCU) to length of 6 and add a new Business Unit segment (MCU) with a length of 4 in Flex Format - BU.Obj.Sub (P0907).
