How to Configure the Java Deployment Cache for Deployments on a Large Number of Windows Machines

(Doc ID 1002183.1)

Last updated on JUNE 02, 2017

Applies to:

Java SE JDK and JRE - Version 1.5.0 to 7 [Release 1.5 to 7]
All Platforms
Microsoft Windows (32-bit)

Goal

When you want to deploy a Java applet or Java Web Start application on a large number of machines, it is desirable to have the config files centralized in order to ease the administrative task. A feature has been added to Java SE 5.0 to address this problem.

See the "Deployment Configuration File and Properties" of the Java 5.0 Deployment Guide.

In the documentation, no example was provided. This document is intended to provide a simple example of the configuration of two things:

1. configuration of the Java Deployment Cache in a centralized place in order to avoid Java Deployment Caches for each individual user

2. restriction of the size of this centralized Java Deployment Cache to 20 MB.
