Symptoms

A C++ application fails on Solaris[TM] 8 or newer with "symbol __SUNW_init_wiostreams: referenced symbol not found".
Example error message

ld.so.1: myprogram: fatal: relocation error: file myprogram: symbol __SUNW_init_wiostreams: referenced symbol not found

 

Changes

The problem shows up only if one of the following C++ shared runtime library patches was applied:

The application worked fine before the patch was applied.
