The Java Generic e*Way Fails when used with JDBC

The Java Generic e*Way is being used with JDBC. In a user implemented Exchanger.class the exchangeData() method was making JDBC calls which failed with the following Java exception:
16:41:50.234 EWY A 1828 (actions.cxx:178): ewgj: Java Exchanger method
exchangeData() threw a:
16:41:50.394 EWYV T 1828 (actions.cxx:111): ewgj: Attempt to call getMessage() method for Exception
16:41:50.654 EWYV T 1828 (actions.cxx:118): ewgj: Attempt to access characters of returned String object
16:41:50.845 EWY A 1828 (actions.cxx:123): ewgj: Exception
getMessage():[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified
