Last updated on MARCH 20, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle WebLogic Server - Version 8.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Purpose

This document explains the differences between WebLogic Server (WLS) installers, including choosing between installers for 32-bit platforms and 64-bit platforms. It also specifies what a "generic" installer means.

In the process, we are also trying to answer the following types of questions:

When we download an installer for WebLogic Server, we see the same installer for a 32-bit operating system (OS) and a 64-bit OS. Is the installer the same for both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems?
OR
Does the generic installer mean it is generic to all OS platforms (Linux, Solaris, AIX, Windows etc.) or generic to a 32-bit or 64-bit hardware platform?
