Symptoms

You migrated from Applications 11 to release 12.1.2.  Apps 11 uses SQL*Plus 8.0.6 and Apps 12 uses SQL*Plus 10.1.0.5.

You have custom programs which used "sqlplus /NoLogin" in 8.0.6, but now after upgrading, the /NoLogin fails with the following error message:

Usage: SQLPLUS [ [<option>] [<logon>] [<start>] ]
where <option> : := -H | -V | [ [ -C <v>] [-L] [-M <o>] [-R <n>] [-S] ]
    <logon> : := <username> [/<password>] [@<connect_identifier>] | / | /NOLOG
    <start> : := @<URL> | <filename> [.<ext>] [<parameter> ...]

The issue can be reproduced at will.

Using SQL*Plus 8.0.6, the following works:

sqlplus /nologin

However, using the same command in SQL*Plus 10.1.0.5 fails.

Note that sqlplus /nolog works in both 8.0.6 and 10.1.0.5

Changes

Migrated from SQL*Plus 8.0.6 to SQL*Plus 10.1.0.5.
