How to fix "response is used by one or more tasks" Issue When Trying to Update a Process task

When trying to update the STATUS field in the RESPONSES tab of a Process Definition Task, it throws an error "the response is used by one or more tasks".
The reason for this error is that the resource has already been provisioned to a user prior to making this change and the process task has already been used in a provisioning process before. Hence it cannot be modified.
