Oracle JRockit Mission Control 4.0: "Failed to initialize kstat for CPU, ignoring." (Doc ID 1109203.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 04, 2010

Applies to:

Oracle JRockit - Version: R27.5 to R28   [Release: JRockit to JRockit]
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)

Symptoms

WebLogic version: 10.3.3
Oracle JRockit Mission Control 4.0
JRockit version: Oracle JRockit(R) (build R28.0.0-679-130297-1.6.0_17-20100312-2127-solaris-sparcv9, compiled mode)

Starting the java process displays some strange warnings, stalls for about 10 seconds and then continues.

This does not happen with Sun JDK.

weblogic@xxxsun05 /opt/weblogic/jrmc-4.0.0-1.6.0/bin]$ ./java -version

[WARN ][yyyy ] Failed to initialize kstat for CPU 4, ignoring.
[WARN ][yyyy] Failed to initialize kstat for CPU 5, ignoring.
[WARN ][yyyy] Failed to initialize kstat for CPU 6, ignoring.
[WARN ][yyyy] Failed to initialize kstat for CPU 7, ignoring.

java version "1.6.0_17"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04)
Oracle JRockit(R) (build R28.0.0-679-130297-1.6.0_17-20100312-2127-solaris-sparcv9, compiled mode)

This is not reproducible on all Solaris machines.   It appears that the problem has to do with different CPU numbering. On every server with CPU numbering 0-15 it works, on every server with a different CPU numbering it prints the warning and is stuck for a time.
