Symptoms
You have set up a hybrid directory configuration using the Generic JNDI type and you have customized the directory configuration file (directory.xml) to restrict participants, groups and OUs per the "Tuning Oracle BPM's Directory Service" guide.
For participants, you have used a <relative-dn> and added a restriction to <object-filter>. This seems to be working fine when the participants are reviewed in the Process Administrator. But the engine appears to be polling and caching LDAP entries that are outside the specified <relative-dn>. You will see logs similar to the following.
