Unable To Webedit In WCI Collaboration: "There was a WebDAV server internal error" (Doc ID 1139857.1)

Symptoms

When attempting to save a document after webedit with Collaboration server in a clustered configuration, the save fails and the error below appears in a spy log of collaboration:

There was a WebDAV server internal error
com.plumtree.webdav.error.WebDavInternalException: User authentication failed: No session token found in cookie. Session token from path has expired. No valid plumtree session found.
