Oracle SAP/R3 Adapter Fails to Read IDOC from SAP System (Doc ID 1159273.1)

Symptoms

Connecting to SAP using Oracle SAP/R3 adapter to retrieve an IDOC (middleware inbound),  the following error occurs:
