When the absence period feature is configured for a particular participant, and a replacement participant is defined, all selected instances in that participant's inbox are re-assigned to its replacement during the period of absence.
When the participant is back, all the re-assigned instances will remain in the replacement's inbox.
Note that instances can be manually or programmatically assigned to the participant at any time (whether it is absent or not). But when the absence period is in effect, instances will be reassigned automatically on a daily bases or immediately, depending on the case.
