Transaction attribute "NOT_SUPPORTED" does not work on javax.ejb.Timeout method. (Doc ID 1193795.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 12, 2021

Applies to:

Oracle WebLogic Server - Version 9.2 to 10.3.3
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When programing javax.ejb.Timeout callback in EJB bean class (EJB Timer Service), i.e. setting @TransactionAttribute (value = javax.ejb.TransactionAttributeType.NOT_SUPPORTED) annotation on a particular timeout method, as below, the method runs longer than the JTA timeout.

@Timeout
public void timeout(Timer timer) {
..........
}

After which the container throws an exception and the transaction is rolled back with the below error:

javax.ejb.EJBException: Transaction Rolledback.: weblogic.transaction.internal.TimedOutException: Transaction timed out after 33 seconds.

For details of using the Timer Service, please refer to "Using the Timer Service" in "The Java EE Tutorial".
For javax.ejb.TransactionAttribute Annotation, please refer to "Overview of EJB 3.0 Annotations"
