ODI 10g Client Hangs or Errors When Attempting to Login Into ODI GUI Modules Such as Designer or Topology Manager

Symptoms
Case 1. Log into UI modules
When trying to log into ODI Designer or Topology or any ODI GUI module, the Login screen simply hangs.
Case 2. SnpUser does not exists
Or following message is displayed:
com.sunopsis.core.SecurityAccessException: com.sunopsis.core.SecurityAccessException: SnpUser does not exist.
Case 3. UI hangs
The ODI GUI screen hangs after providing the login credentials. Connecting using other tools works just fine. Starting ODI GUI module from the command prompt using –CONSOLE option, the error below appears:
D:\OraHome_1\oracledi\bin>designer -CONSOLE
A JDK is required to execute Web Services with OracleDI. You are currently using a JRE.
