WebLogic Server (WLS) 10.3.x Template Builder Doesn't Import Customized Startup Scripts (Doc ID 1207384.1)

Last updated on MAY 19, 2021

Applies to:

Oracle WebLogic Server - Version 10.3.1 to 10.3.6
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create fresh WLS 10.3.x domain.
  2. Customize <domain_root>/bin/startWebLogic.sh (and/or startWebLogic.cmd) by adding a comment and a non-comment line.
  3. Customize <domain_root>/startWebLogic.sh (and/or startWebLogic.cmd) by adding a comment and a non-comment line.
  4. Copy <domain_root>/startWebLogic.sh to <domain_root>/startMyWebLogic.sh (custom name).
  5. Create a template of this directory using the template builder GUI.
  6. Confirm that your customizations do exist in the template jar created.
  7. Using the Configuration Wizard, create a new domain based on the template jar you just created. Use defaults throughout.
  8. In the new domain created, your custom-named script file (startMyWebLogic.sh from step 4) is present. However, your customizations are gone from <domain_root>/startWebLogic.sh (and/or startWebLogic.cmd) and <domain_root>/bin/startWebLogic.sh (and/or startWebLogic.cmd).

Workaround: Name the customized files with a new name so that they are installed in the new domain directory. After the domain has been created, overwrite the files in the domain with the custom versions.
