Java applets run in a web browser in an environment with restricted security privileges. Digitally signing the applet's archive (JAR file) allows some additional privileges to be granted. Additionally, with the tightening of Java's security posture in Java 7, the signing of applets will become required. However, it is not always obvious to an application developer which privileges need to be granted, and the necessary privileges are not always consistent between platforms.
Enabling the display and logging of security related diagnostics from the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) can assist with diagnosing issues related to inadequate or incorrect privileges.
This document describes the procedure to turn on security diagnostic tracing for Java applets on the Microsoft Windows platform. for further troubleshooting.
