Symptoms

After following the documentation for migrating a Portal, errors are seen when attempting to use the omniportlet.

Documentation used to migrate the Portal :-
Oracle Application Server Administrator's Guide
10g Release 2 (10.1.2)
B13995-08
11 Staging a Test Environment from a Production Environment
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/core.1012/b13995/prodtest.htm#CHDHBJCH

Omniportlets which were developed on the source portal stop working and are giving the error message

"No connection information found. Please go to Personalize page to enter connection information.".

It is not possible to create a new omniportlet using either a new or existing connection.
Omniportlet portlet is not present in the portlet repository in the 'add portlet' page, but it is displayed in the search result when searching for 'omniportlet' in the add portlet page.
Trying to add the omniportlet gives the following error:

   Internal error (WWC-00006)
Portlet Information could not be obtained. (WWC-44334)
An unexpected error occurred: User-Defined Exception (WWC-43000)
The provider URL specified may be wrong or the provider is not running. (WWC-43176)

The following errors are seen in the logfile <midtier home>/j2ee/OC4J_Portal/application-deployments/portalTools/OC4J_Portal_default_island_1/application.log
