Symptoms
Your process design is using a complex gateway circuit where the condition in the join activity is to wait for the first copy to arrive and then go on with the process. The remaining copies remain in their activities and are not dropped after the gateway circuit is finished.
In other words, when the complex gateway is activated the pending flows are not aborted. When the usertask is canceled the human tasks are not withdrawn.
