af:selectItem With Property disabled="true" Does Not Render in Internet Explorer (Doc ID 1257784.1)

Symptoms

You are developing an ADF Faces application in JDeveloper 10g
One of your pages contains an af:selectOneChoice including an af:selectItem with its disabled property
set to "true":

...
<af:selectOneChoice label="Choose Destination"
                    unselectedLabel="Select Destination Terminal...">
   <af:selectItem label="Mainland"/>
   <af:selectItem label="Islands" disabled="true"/>
</af:selectOneChoice>
...


When running that page in Firefox, the select list correctly renders that selectItem:
it's disabled (greyed out), as shown in the next figure:

However, in Internet Explorer, the disabled item doesn't appear at all in the list:
