OID Not Responding Intermittently / Searches Fail With DSA is unwilling to perform - Function Not Implemented Or Failure accessing Oracle database (oracle errcode=3114) / ORA-03135: connection lost contact / Ldapbinds Fail With Invalid Credentials Error (Doc ID 1270606.1)

Last updated on APRIL 03, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Internet Directory - Version 11.1.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Oracle Internet Directory (OID) 11g

OID fails to respond intermittently.

For example, searching for an indexed attribute returns error as if the attribute was not indexed:

> ldapsearch -h <OID_HOSTNAME> -p <OID_PORT> -D "cn=orcladmin" -w <PASSWORD> -b "dc=<COMPANY>,dc=com" myattr=<SOME VALUE>
ldap_search: DSA is unwilling to perform
ldap_search: additional info: Function Not Implemented

A subsequent same or different search can also return a different error:

> ldapsearch -h <OID_HOSTNAME> -p <OID_PORT> -D "cn=orcladmin" -w <PASSWORD> -b "cn=oid1,cn=osdldapd,cn=subconfigsubentry" -s base "objectclass=*"
ldap_search: DSA is unwilling to perform
ldap_search: additional info: Failure accessing Oracle database (oracle errcode=3114).

Note: The same error above can be returned to connecting/front ending applications and in their logs.

Or, ldapbinds may fail intermittently with "invalid credentials", for example:

> ldapbind --h <OID_HOSTNAME> -p <OID_PORT> -D "orclapplicationcommonname=<APP_NAME>,cn=ebusiness,cn=products,cn=oraclecontext,dc=<COMPANY>,dc=com" -w <app password>
ldap_bind: Invalid credentials
> ldapbind -h <OID_HOSTNAME> -p <OID_PORT> -D "orclapplicationcommonname=<APP_NAME>,cn=ebusiness,cn=products,cn=oraclecontext,dc=<COMPANY>,dc=com" -w <app password>
bind successful
> ldapbind -h <OID_HOSTNAME> -p <OID_PORT> -D "orclapplicationcommonname=<APP_NAME>,cn=ebusiness,cn=products,cn=oraclecontext,dc=<COMPANY>,dc=com" -w <app password>
bind successful
> ldapbind -h <OID_HOSTNAME> -p <OID_PORT> -D "orclapplicationcommonname=<APP_NAME>,cn=ebusiness,cn=products,cn=oraclecontext,dc=<COMPANY>,dc=com" -w <app password>
ldap_bind: Invalid credentials
> ldapbind --h <OID_HOSTNAME> -p <OID_PORT> -D "orclapplicationcommonname=<APP_NAME>,cn=ebusiness,cn=products,cn=oraclecontext,dc=<COMPANY>,dc=com" -w <app password>
ldap_bind: Invalid credentials
> ldapbind -h <OID_HOSTNAME> -p <OID_PORT> -D "orclapplicationcommonname=<APP_NAME>,cn=ebusiness,cn=products,cn=oraclecontext,dc=<COMPANY>,dc=com" -w <app password>
bind successful

OID 11g server log shows the following error around or before that time:
