Symptoms
On WebLogic Workshop 8.1 SP6 on RedHat Linux you will notice that when attempting to start a portal application in WebLogic Workshop with a WebLogic Portal production domain running, the below error occurs:
ERROR
There is currently a server running, but it does not support WebLogic Workshop.
Please shut down the server and modify your application properties to use a WebLogic Workshop-enabled domain.

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Install WLS 8.1 SP6 platform on RedHat linux
2. Create WLP production domain
3. Create WLP application in workshop
