Firewall Rule Considerations When Deploying the DSCC to Manage DSEE / ODSEE Instances (Doc ID 1276971.1)

Last updated on MAY 17, 2018

Applies to:

Oracle Directory Server Enterprise Edition - Version 6.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Purpose

To provide guidance for administrators planning the deployment of the Directory Server (DS) and Directory Service Control Center (DSCC) in relationship to firewall rules design. If your deployment design requires that a firewall resides between components making up the DSCC and registered Directory Server instances, the following are important items of which to be aware.

Scope

This document is designed for systems administrators. It provides a summary of the DS/DSCC components, including their significant default listener ports.  Included in the discussion is an explanation of the direction that connections are initiated between components.  A brief commentary on timeout considerations for firewall rule design is provided as well. The Directory Server Enterprise Edition (DSEE) documentation provides a basic deployment scenario where the DSCC is on the same network segment behind the firewall as the DS instances, vs the more complex deployment scenario of the firewall separating the components as discussed here.
