Last updated on JULY 21, 2020

Applies to:

Identity Manager - Version 11.1.1.3.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In a fresh installation of Oracle Identity Manager 11g one wants to log the activities of user developed adapters using Oracle Identity Manager 11g loggers for debugging purposes. For this log.properties in IDM_HOME/server/config to generate log files is being edited with following additional entries but the logs are not being generated:

log4j.logger.CUSTOM=DEBUG,CUSTOM
log4j.additivity.CUSTOM=false
log4j.appender.CUSTOM =org.apache.log4j.RollingFileAppender
log4j.appender.CUSTOM.File=<PATH_TO_THE_ACTUAL_DIR>/custom.log
log4j.appender.CUSTOM.MaxFileSize=10000KB
log4j.appender.CUSTOM.MaxBackupIndex=10
log4j.appender.CUSTOM.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout
log4j.appender.CUSTOM.layout.ConversionPattern=%5p,%d{dd MMM yyyy HH:mm:ss},[%c],%m%n

Following changes were also tried using the log.properties file to display it on console but still the logs are not being displayed on the console:

#log4j.rootLogger=WARN,stdout,logfile
log4j.rootLogger=WARN,stdout
log4j.logger.IDM.SYBASE=DEBUG

Also attempts were made to set it in the Logging.xml file in the wlserver10.3.3 config folder but the logs are not getting generated. Even if an explicit path for the log file is given in the log.properties file the log file is not getting generated. This article will provide details regarding the right logger module one should use in this case.
