Error installing WebLogic Server 10.3.x on Solaris 10: Insufficient Disk Space

(Doc ID 1294799.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 05, 2016

Applies to:

Oracle WebLogic Server - Version 10.3 and later
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)
Oracle Solaris on x86-64 (64-bit)

WLS 10.3.x fails to install if using the generic installer (wls103x_generic.jar). An "Insufficient Disk Space" error appears, even though the file system has enough available space.

** Insufficient disk space! The installer requires:
** 217MB for the Middleware Home at /opt/WL11,
** 512MB for the product at
** /opt/WL11/coherence_3.6,/opt/WL11/utils/uninstall/WebLogic_Platform_10.3.4.0,/opt/WL11/wlserver_10.3 and
** 1139MB temporary work space at /var/tmp/bea2197776606438218241.tmp.
** There is only 1MB available at /opt/WL11.

The issue can be reproduced at will with these steps:

  1. Install WLS 10.3.x by executing the command: /usr/jdk/jdk1.6.0/bin/java -d64 -jar wls103x_generic.jar.
  2. Installation process is aborted because there is not available space.
  3. Installer log file shows this message:
    2011-02-03 09:22:50,954 ERROR [WizardController] com.bea.plateng.common.util.DetectFreeSpace - df: unknown option: P
