Web Stack 1.5: Installing Web Stack 1.5 produces WS014 Error

Symptoms
When attempting to install native package based installer distribution of Web Stack 1.5 the following error occurs:
./install -v mysql
ERROR
-----------------------
WS014 This software requires platform version 10 5 or above
STEPS
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Setup Solaris 10 u9 from a patch upgrade bundle with prior installed version of Solaris 10u4 or lower.
2. Download native package based installer of web stack .
3. Unpack and run ./install -v <component> where <component> is one as described in installer usage info:
Usage: install -?|--help
or: install [common_options] [-X<platform-option>] [admin | amp | apache | lighttpd | memcached | mysql | php | python | ruby | squid | tomcat]
or: install [common_options] -u
Installs or upgrades to Sun GlassFish Web Stack 1.5 component packages.
