Getting "CA Root Certificate Not Trusted" Error When Accessing A Web Site Hosted On Oracle iPlanet Web Server 7.0 (Doc ID 1311515.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 01, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle iPlanet Web Server - Version 6.1 to 7.0 [Release 6.1 to 7.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

IE users get the following error when accessing the web site ( Normally after After migrating to Web Server 7.0 from 6.1 but also applies for lastest web server 6.1 versions):

"This CA Root certificate is not trusted because its is not in the Trusted root Certificate Authorities store"

The same certificate works fine with Web Server 6.1 sp12 or above ( NSS version bellow 3.12).

Changes

The main issue is not due to WS7 or WS6. But the underlying NSS used. So using WS6.x and WS7.x with NSS 3.12 will have the issue.
See https://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E22288_01/doc.60/e18788/issues.htm#BCFDDFDH
So all the web server versions WS6.1SP13++ will have the same issue.
