Updating Portlet Instance Titles Using DVT Updates Library Instance Titles As Well (Doc ID 1317908.1)

Last updated on JANUARY 31, 2025

Applies to:

Oracle WebLogic Portal - Version 10.3.2 to 10.3.2 [Release AS10gR3]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

If a user has a locale which is not populated for the Library instance of a portlet, and then updates a portlet instance (user level) title on a page using DVT, the Library instance is updated as well (a new title locale record is created for the library portlet), which affects all instances of the portlet.

To be more specific:

When a <Testuser> (with no admin rights) logs in to the portal with a locale which is not configured (e.g. de_de) and modifies portlet title, it will create records in both L10N_RESOURCE and L10N_LOCALE tables under the portal schema. More information about the portal database tables can be found in References.

Note: A locale which is not configured means: resources in Portal Resources Library e.g. portlet which does not have specific Localization Info (Localized Title).

Logging in to the desktop with another <Testuser2> (also no admin rights, using same locale as <Testuser>) does not show the modified title.

However, when logging in to the PAT again as admin user, a new title has been created under the 'title & description' tab, for a new locale. When changing locale as admin to the same locale as <Testuser> did and go to PAT, all portlets' names in the tree have the names <Testuser> chose.

Expected behavior:
Changes made to user level instances won't affect Library level instances.
