Errors Scanning Capture Batches After Upgrading to Internet Explorer 8, When Using Kofax VRS Twain Driver

After upgrading a Windows XP SP3 scanner workstation that makes use of the Kofax VRS Twain scanner driver to use Internet Explorer 8, the following errors are returned when attempting to scan a batch:

iexplore.exe - Common Language Runtime Debugging Services

Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.

Process id=0x544 (1348), Thread id=0xad0 (2768).

Click OK to terminate the application.
Click CANCEL to debug the application.

Followed by:

iexplore.exe - No debugger found.

Registered JIT debugger is not available. An attempt to launch a JIT debugger with the following command resulted in an error code of 0x0 (0). Please check computer settings

cordbg.exe !a 0x694


The workstation had been working until it was upgraded to Internet Explorer 8.
