Last updated on APRIL 02, 2021

Applies to:

Oracle Reports Developer - Version 10.1.2.0.2 to 11.1.2.2.0 [Release Oracle10g to 11g]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When attempting to run a report and a DB instance in a non-related machine is shutdown, the reports server fails with an unexpected error:

Per showjobs URL:

http://<HOST>:<PORT>/reports/rwservlet/showjobs?server=<repserver_name>

Terminated with error:
REP-12518: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-12518: TNS:listener could not hand off client connection

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

1. Stop the remote database that is believed to have nothing to do with this Forms/Reports installation and application.

2. Run the report and it displays REP-12518 and ORA-12518.

Changes

A database installed in a completely different environment was shutdown.
