Symptoms

When attempting to deploy a web application on WLS 10.3.4, the following error occurs, even though there is a log4j-1.2.12.jar in WEB-INF/lib in the webapp already -

Caused By: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.log4j.Category

at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:190)
at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:306)

at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:247)
at org.apache.commons.logging.impl.Log4jFactory.getInstance(Log4jFactory.java:101)
at org.apache.commons.logging.LogFactory.getLog(LogFactory.java:351)
