XA Transasction failure between 2 domains seperated by a firewall

(Doc ID 1337156.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 05, 2016

Applies to:

Oracle Weblogic Server - Version: and later   [Release: 11g and later ]
Oracle Service Bus - Version: 10.3 to   [Release: AS10gR3 to 11g]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

The issue happens when you try to send messages with XA transaction from one Weblogic Server (WLS) domain to another WLS domain using Oracle Service Bus (OSB) (proxy service/business service). The important point here is that the 2 domains are seperated by a firewall and there is no communication port open between the 2 domains.

WLS 10.3.3 Firstdomain >> OSB proxy ------Firewall----- WLS 10.3.3 Second domain >> JDBCstore

When the Proxy Service De-Queues the message a business service is configured to route the messages (en-queue) to the second domain. The messages are received in the second domain, but go into pending state and  fail with the exception shown below.

Caused by: javax.transaction.SystemException: Aborting prepare because the following resources could not be assigned: WLStore_p05GWMP_Backend_Backend_p05_Second_MS2_JDBCStore (JMS jdbc store configured on the second domain)

Summary Of Test Cases:

1) NON XA Message processing between two domains via OSB - PASSED
2) XA message processing between two domains via OSB - FAILED
3) XA message processing with firewall rule opened between first and second domains - PASSED

The test clearly confirms that routing messages between two weblogic domains located in different subnet with XA transaction enabled has failed.
