How to Capture Client IP addresses in Custom Header in Oracle iPlanet Web Server 6.1 (Doc ID 1345984.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 12, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle iPlanet Web Server - Version 6.1 to 6.1 [Release 6.1]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Some network architectures have edge servers that do not readily provide the actual client IP address for the Web Server. Instead the desired client IP is buried in a custom header.

This document provides a method to extract that client IP address from the custom header so as to provide a mechanism one can use to block specific hosts or networks accessing the Web Server.

When that client IP address is captured the Web Server can send back a 404 error for blocking or some other customized response.
