How To Use Subnet Mask Notation In Oracle iPlanet Web Proxy Server 4.0.x ACL File? (Doc ID 1348227.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 23, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle iPlanet Web Proxy Server - Version 4.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

The goal of this document is to clarify whether the subnet mask notation is still supported in Proxy Server 4.0.x ACL file for IP based security as supported in Proxy Server 3.6.x?

In Proxy Server 3.6.x the syntax was the starting IP address followed by a space and then the netmask.
For example, 1.2.3.45 255.255.255.224

Proxy Server 3.6 doc:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19392-01/816-6826-10/access.html#1006301

Example:

The 4.0.x documentation mentions the use of the * for replacing one of the nodes, but the 3.6 syntax was more refined.

Proxy Server 4.0.x doc:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21692_01/821-1882/adyhq/index.html

Proxy Server 4.0.x does not recognize the same syntax which worked in Proxy Server 3.6.x.
