Last updated on JANUARY 30, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle Directory Server Enterprise Edition - Version 5.2 SP6 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

The following error message, referring to nsSchemaCSN having multiple values, occurs throughout the errors file.

[08/Mar/2011:23:24:46 -0500] - ERROR<5895> - Schema - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 - User error: Entry "cn=schema", single-valued attribute "nsSchemaCSN" has multiple values

When this error occurs, replication of schema changes will not take place.  Replication of data will not be affected.

Changes

There are many ways to create the issue.  One of the simplest ways:

  1. Create a schema change through the ldapmodify command.  This will create a nsSchemaCSN entry in the 99user.ldif.
  2. Make a copy of the 99user.ldif, with an extension of .ldif, e.g. 99user_backup.ldif

Now there are two files in the <install>/config/schema directory that contain a reference to nsSchemaCSN.
