How To Delete a Group in WLS That Contains a Parentheses or Other Invalid Character (Doc ID 1349723.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 26, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle WebCenter Content - Version 11.1.1.2.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

You followed the instructions in the documentation here, and created a group name in WebLogic Server (WLS) that contains a parentheses:

http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/doc.1111/e10792/c03_security.htm#BGBCFIEC

You have since found out that the parentheses is an invalid character for a WLS group, as stated here:

http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/apirefs.1111/e13952/taskhelp/security/DefineGroups.html

You try to delete the group through the WLS Administration Console.  However, the group is not deleted and the console displays an error that states:

This happens with a group containing any of the invalid characters, not just the parentheses.

How can these groups be deleted?
