About the ContentID auto increment feature

What happens when you start running out of numbers ?

For example, the ContentID is auto incremented, and we have set a 3 digit prefix as “WCM”
e.g. The system auto generates a 6 digit number: WCM000001.

How can we increase the 6 digits to 9 or more digits ?
What happens when the number reaches its max of 999999 ?
