ADF_FACES-60097 Error When Creating OID Group Using ODSM 11.1.1.5

Symptoms
When trying to create a group in Oracle Internet Directory (OID) 11g using Oracle Directory Services Manager (ODSM) an error occurs.
The problem only occurs when creating a group without any members.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Log in to ODSM
2. Select a group that has no members and select "Create Like"
3. Name the new group and define mandatory properties
4. On the optional properties tab highlight the owner and click the delete button (red cross)
An ADF_FACES-60097 error message pops up and the following error appears in wls_ods1_diagnostic.log:
