Oracle iPlanet Web Server 6.1: Basic Authentication Challenge Not Reading User Database. (Doc ID 1366652.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 21, 2018

Applies to:

Oracle iPlanet Web Server - Version: 6.1 and later   [Release: 6.1 and later ]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Oracle iPlanet Web Server 6.1 SP11 is failing to accept the correct username and password for authentication of a specific URL.

For example:

A request for the URL '/foo/bar.do' should be processed by the ACL:

acl "basic";
authenticate (user,group) {
database = "default";
method = "basic";
prompt = "Basic Authentication Challenge";
};
deny (all)
(user = "anyone");

allow (all)
(user = "test" or group = "test");

But this is failing and producing the following error in the Web Server error log:

[10/Oct/2011:10:19:20] fine (507934): HTTP5234: fileacl: basic auth failed for user test

Other URL's are being processed as expected by the Web Server.
